Are you among those fretting about the issues of hair and skin as an after-effect of your daily workout? Well, you are not alone. While we all know about the numerous benefits that working out has, it cannot be denied that there are certain steps that can (and should) be taken to protect your mane and skin from any unwanted, yet possible effects from working out.
We have put together few ways in which your skin and hair can reflect the benefits of working out that you are enjoying.
Tips on Skin care:
- Shower immediately after workout: Continuing to wear your gym clothes after workout can lead to back acne, boils or fungal infections. Do not use a scrub after working out and ensure that you apply face and body moisturiser post showering. Make sure you wash those sweaty clothes and socks before another killer sweat session at the gym.
- Do not wear make-up:As elementary as this may seem, this does seem to be a feature (to look picture perfect at all times, maybe?) But it is not worth the problems it leads to later. As you sweat, your pores open up and wearing makeup can clog them, leading to skin breakouts.
- Use Sunscreen:Don’t leave home without this, if you are doing outdoor workouts.
- Avoid wiping your face with your hands: Use wet wipes or a clean napkin on your face instead of your perspiring hands, during your workout.
Some tips for healthy hair:
- Avoid tying your hair too tight:We all have the habit of pulling our hair into a tight ponytail, so it doesn’t bother us while we exercise. And even though that may help then, it causes a lot of breakage of the hair and gives the impression of a receding hairline over time. Instead of a tight ponytail, try tying it up in a bun or experimenting with a less damaging yet manageable hairstyle.
- Don’t wash your hair daily: Exercising can build up sweat and makes you feel that your scalp needs a scrub. However, shampooing more than 2-3 times a week will only strip the natural oils from your hair. Instead, wash your hair with water and apply conditioner. You can use a dry shampoo for the days when your hair feels too greasy. Keep in mind though, that dry shampoos are not a replacement for regular shampoos so don’t condition your hair after using it.
- Use a moisturising conditioner:Always use a deep moisturising conditioner on your hair post shampooing.
- Try to keep your hair dry:It is a good idea to cover up your tresses with a sweat wicking material like a sweat resistant headband, which will protect your hair by absorbing the sweat.
Apart from all these tips, your lifestyle too plays an important role on your appearance.
Nutrition:
Keep a track of your nutrition so that your food choices are not a recipe for disaster. Cutting your calories is a good thing, but if your exercise is using it all, you could find yourself with a list of deficiencies. Along with weight, you may also land up losing some of your hair. Include these foods in your diet: Almonds, omega 3 rich foods like salmon, avocados, which are full of protein, iron, zinc and biotin. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water and cut back on sugar and sugary drinks.
Stress
Stress can definitely cause a lot of problems when it comes to overall health. Take care not to fall into this trap which can ruin everything for sure.
